We certainly would like to treat patients with ankylosing spondylitis earlier. Apart from being able to give patients a diagnosis to help them cope with the manifestations of the disease, this also allows us to monitor the disease much better. Ankylosing spondylitis can go through a bit of peaks and troughs but it can also be a slowly progressing disease. It is important to suppress the inflammation as much as we can to prevent progression of this disease.

It’s very important to get treatment early so that we don’t have a situation where people’s spines fuse in an abnormal position so we get people to maintain their exercise and their posture and to protect their joints for the future.
